Lecture by Mr Bracken.

AT the City Rink last night Mr T. Bracken, or “ Paddy Murphy ’’ (the title ;;nder which he writes), delivered a lecture on the subject of" Irish Humor, Pathos, and Poitry.'l The attendance was fair, but the threatening aspect of the weather ureventefl the annearance of many country people who would like to have been present to hear ths distinguished poet of New Zealand as a lecturer, Mr Bracken has powers of elocution which are certain to greatly please any audience, and the numerous readings and recitations which he gave were each warmly applauded. The' audience were specially delightef with the reading of two of the lecturer’s own poems, ‘"Not Understood" and '■ Passing through the Gate," which are characteristic of Mr Bracken's poetical genius, The evening's excellent entertainment was much appreciated, and on the lecturer concluding, the audience were not slow to acknowledge their pleasure at the intellectual treat afforded them. Mr Bracken leaves for Auckland tomorrow.
