Hospital Trustees.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held last night. Present: The Chairman (Captain Tucker) and Messrs Coleman, Watson, Harris, Hepburn, Lucas, A. Brown.

The Secretary was instructed to sue a number of defaulting patients whom the Trustees considered were in a position to pay, and who had long neglected to do so. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £l3O 17s 101. Accounts amounting to £73 3s 2d were passed for payment. Mr F. Helps tender for painting the interior of the males' ward, for £lO, was accepted. Mr Morrison tendered at £l2. Messrs Harris and Lucas were appointed a Visiting Committee for the ensuing month.

The Visiting Committee reported in reference to the enquiry they had made as to the carrying out of the Recent contract for fittings that they had authorised Mr Ritchie to examine the work with regard to Mr Wade's complaint. 'The report submitted by him went generally to show that the BBsoiflcatious had not been adhered to, and th'e w perjormed was unsatisfactory, go considered ip'M of the- fittings not strong enough for any institution of ifie kind. The fittings, he stated, he estimated at least 80 or 90 per cent be'ow the specified value. Without entering into details he considered that the deficient work amounted in value to the sum of £2O, The Gas Company replied at length, traversing Mr Ritchie's statements ana maintaining that in all ipatgrjal particulars the work Was done in accordance with specifications, In support of these assertions Messrs Arundel and Smith furnished their report, contending that Mr Ritchie had exaggerated the value of deficiencies and underestimated the cost of fittings. After considerable discussion with the object of arriving at a fair assessment of the proper amount of deductions to be made, it was resolyed, on the motion of the Chairman, that the Trustees dedufit from the amount of the Gas Company's account I £5O 4s) the sum of £lO, being an equivalent ;for variations in the contract.
