ROWING
The first heat of the trial fours of the Gisborne Bowing Club for medals presented by Mr Stewart, of Wellington, was to have been rowed off on Thursday evening, but the crews in the heat (Clayton, Muir, Somers, and Ambridge, and Lunn, Chrisp, Parker, and Bull) did not roll up to time, so their race was postponed until Friday evening. The second crews in the second heat— Hennessy, str. I Johnstone, str. C. Lewis | E. Sandlant Robinson I Morrison Hope I Evans (Humphreys cox) j (Parnell cox) started from the shed about 5 30. and rowed gently up the river as far as Graham's jetty, at which place the race Started from. Both crews got off well together. Green's, having a slight advantage, soon left Hennessy’s crew a good length behind. The time tq the broken Taruheru footbridge was very fast. Hennessy, having by this time turned the tables, had his Crew half a length ahead, which lead they maintained until the finish. The next Crews out were— Simms, str. E. Chrisp, str. Adair Cosgrove E. Matthews L. Bees P. Matthews A. L. Muir (Parnell oox) | (Muir cox)
An even start was effected, and the crews raced bow and bow until they reached the footbridge, when Simms struck the bridge With his oar, and Chrisp’s crew obtained a lead of about a length, and when the finishing port was reached they were a quarter of a length ahead of Simms’ crew. There was great applause when an indefatigable heavyweight, one of tbe winning crew, stepped from tbe boat, still puffing after the great exertion of tbe race. The raoe fixed tar last night was further postponed-
