Trotting Club’s Meeting.

Thx first meeting of the local Club was held yesterday afternoon in Capt. Tucker’s paddock. The weather was sphndid. About 200 people were present, Everything went off smoothly, the officers giving sa’iafaction in all the arrangements. The results were:—

Maiden Tro*, 15 sov?—Pori, Spinner, Billy, Slaughterman, Warrior, Lassie, and J”ker started, Spinner got the ipad, all being slow to settle down. Spinner he’d fhe lead lor two round®, with Joker and Lassie bandy, the o'he>-* repeatedly breaking. Joker then took the lead, and looked a Certain winner, bus broke, and Spinner (Bhwn*on) got ahead. A splendid finish pn•ued. Joker (Weston) winning by a head. Lassie made a good effor*, but broke near f hs port, and came third, pnni and Billy were d dead heat fnr dfx» the others b--lng bowpsrs. Time 6,59 34 on machine, 6on winner, dividend £5. A protest against Joker for croaairg od the last round was not Upheld, but the deposit we» returned. Maiden Pony Trot. 10 povs—The time taken discussing the protest in the previous race made it ’ate before the second race started. Poete®®, Ivy, Snip. Madam, and Freda started. The race soon resn'ved itrelf into a match between Burna’ Madam and Malone’s Poetess. Ivy went badly, and -gave m at the first round. Poetess and Madam alternately held the lead. The lattef at one time had a solid advantage, but lost it by a bad break. Poetess broke several times, but always recovered quickly Poetess won by half a length, the others being a long way behind. Time, 5.50, Dividend £B, 44 on machine, 13 on winner. 15 ta Madam,|

President’s Handicap, of 30 sovs —For this race only Weston’s Joker (owner—lls yards penalty), Adeane’s Hurricane (Primrose—4oo yards behind), and F. Stevenson’s Dick (owner) started. Hurricane was the

only one to get off steadily. Dick was soon left in the lurch, and Joker gave Hurricane an unhappy time in trying to make up the handicap. Each round showed a slight reduction, but Joker had settled down into a steady trot that brought him a winner by over a hundred yards. Time 10 32—102 on machine, 26 on winner, 55 on Hurricane, dividend £3 9s.

Handicap Pony Trot, 10 sovs.—Poetess, scratch ; Adelaide and Freda, 10yds behind ; Nobby, Madam, and Snip, 25yds, and Billy, 150, star'ed. Poetess had a penalty of 75yds. Madam (F. Burns) soon took the lead, and maintained it well to the finish. Billy looked dangerous several times, but repeatedly broke, while Madam went very steadily. Poetess was done with on the last round, and Billy came up very fast, but could not catch the leader. Just as Madam was passing the post, the flag post was accidentally allowed to drop, causing Madam to shy and- break before quite across the line, and this accident was made the foundation of a protest, but the protest was of course ’brown out, and the deposit forfeited. Poetess was third, and Snip was th® only other one to finish. Time, 7.40 -68 on machine, 19 on winner, dividend £3 3< Electric Stakes, 15 sovh —Spinner. 45 yards behind scratch, 1 ; Hurricane, 100 yards behind, 2. Warrior, scratch, and Serenade, 10 yards, also started, but were soon out of it, and then there was an interesting race between the placed horses, the winner having an advantage of three lengths at the finish. T<me 3.33. Dividend £2 Is—93 on machine, 40 on winner.

Selling Trot, 15 sovs—Only Adeane’s Arnold (Adeune) and Serenade started, the latter being 225 yards behind scratch. Arnold won easi y by more than the distance allowed him through his price being nil. He was put up for sale and £8 realised, but there was a dispute as to the amount bid, and the horse was put up again, Mr John C ark being the purchaser at £5 15s. The race gave a dividend of £1 Is, £4l being invested. The time was 940

Free Handicap, of 10 sovs—Hurricane, 200 yards behind scratch ; Joker, 150 ; Spinner, 135; Billy and Lassie, 100, were the starters. Hurricane went off in much batter style in this race and had the lead on the first round. Thia he gradually increased, but Joker improved his pace, and the race soon lay between the pair, Billy having the best of Spinner, who kept' breaking Hur ricane won comfortably by about four leng hs from Joker, BiUy third, and Spin ner fourth. Time, 5.27. Dividend £1 17a — 80 on machine, 16 on winner. During the afternoon £462 was invested in the totalizator.

Mr Crawford acted as Judge, Mr G Watson was capital as starter, Messrs Nolan and Sawyer were handicappers. Mr Sweet was quick in the woik of Totalisator Steward, and Mr McLernon was a careful timekeeper.
