Mr James Bremncr. a well-known Hamilton optician, died on Wednesday form pneumonia. Mr and Mrs Wynn Sheath, of Auckland are among the visitors to Hastings for the trotting meeting. Miss Sartori arrived in Hastings last night, and is the guest of Mr and Mrs 8. L. Cox, Havelock road. Mrs C. Smith, of Hastings, has returned home much improved in health after several weeks spent in the Otago district. Mr and Mrs J. D. Rivers, who have been on a visit to Hastings, left this morning by the mail train on their return to Wellington. Mr G. S. Lyndp. chief mechanical engineer to the Railway Department, is in Napier on departmental business. , \ 'll K Miss Margaret Ford, who has been on a visit to her cousin, Miss Helen Ford, of Hastings, left this morning by train on her return to Dunedin. Mr H. Robertson, formerly of Waipukurau, and for the past four years postmaster at Patetonga, has been promoted to a position at Tauranga. The marriage arranged between Miss Aidie Christie, daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Christie Cobden road, Napier, and Mr J. D. Mitchell, Whangarei, will take place on the evening of July 11 at St. John’s Cathedral. Mr E. T. James, who is to proceed to England on behalf of the New Zealand Fruit-Growers’ Federation, will leave Wellington for Sydney by the Maunganui on June 8, to connect there with a mailboat for London. The Bishop of Melanesia (the Rt. Rev. Dr. F. M. Molyneux) is now in Hawke’s Bay district, where he will preach in the churches at Napier, Havelock North, and Hastings. Bishop Molyneux hopes to leave for his diocese by the mission steamer Southern Cross shortly. Mr. Robert L. Bruce, of the Post and Telegraph Department. Wellington. who was well known and popular in musical and social circles in Hastings some littlo time ago. is at present on a holiday visit to the district. The death occurred at Auckland on Wednesday of Mrs Charlotte Choyce. The deceased lady arrived in the Dominion in the Queen of the Merccy in 1863, from the North of Ireland. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended to Mr Choyce, the two sons Professor C. C. Choyce, of London. Mr H. V.
