DERBY SWEEPS.
LUCKY JIMMY. (Sydney “Sun” Special). London, May 28. Jimmy Gibbs, the seven-year-old holder of Cragadour, the Derby favourite, in tho Stock Exchange sweep, has sold three-quarters of his share for £12,000.
A message from Calcutta states that the Calcutta Derby sweep is still the biggest in the world. The subscriptions total one crore. St lakhs. 98.250 rupees, or £1,079.(135. Even a comparatively small institution like the Allahabad Bank has obtained 2000 tickets for its clients.
The chance of drawing a prize is estimated at 5000 to one. If the lucky Master Gibbs were in New Zealand and if his parents or guardians were content with 5 per cent, compound interest, the boy’s £12,000 would become about £23,958 by the time he reached his majority.
