BOXING
A STAR ATTRACTION. DONOVAN AND NELSON AT HASTINGS. If there was any proof needed that the coming contest between Donovan and Nelson, which is to take place on July 31 in Hastings, is already creating considerable interest and that it is likely to draw a record audience one has only to inspect the box plans to find this out. The plan had only been open in Hastings less than an hour before several seats had been booked and this is surely an indication that those who realise what a stirring contest it is likely to be are not leaving anything to chance and are booking early to be sure of a seat.
The fight last week in Napier between Nelson and Leckie gave the boxing fraternity of the district something to remember for it was here that Nelson showed himself to be one of the gamest boxers seen in the ring. He pleased his audience greatly after the first two or threo rounds, in which he had fought very carefully and after the gruelling time he had in the eighth round and when the spectators thought the fight was all over, he made a remarkable recovery and gave the watchers a treat with his game showing. Nelson should be a greatly improved boxer when he meets Donovan and the bout is considered to be a, star attraction in the boxing world. The Hawke’s Bay Association is indeed fortunate to have made the arrangements *they had, and to have Nelson's next fight in Hastings as many other associations have been after him.
In addtion to the big bout there will be four good amateur bouts staged and altogether it will be a fine night’s sport. The prices for admission are advertised in this issue, and the box plans are open at Donovan’s, Hastings, and the Bristol Piano Company Napier. Members are reminded that they must reserve their seats at Donovan s Nimon’s ’buses will be running from Havelock and the usual Railway ’buses from Napier. A free pass to the ringside is being given by the association, this pass being in the. possession of a wellknown Hastings business man who will hand it over to the first person who confronts him and gives the correct slogan as advertised in this issue.
