Air. H. D. Mace, of Hastings, who . has been on a visit to New Plymouth, returned home yesterday.
Mis C. A. Wilkinson of Egmont, who has been visiting Hastings and Havelock North, returned home this morning.
Miss C. A. Young, M.A., Oxford, assistant mistress at the Girls’ High School, Christchurch, has been appointed headmistress of St. Margaret’s College. Christchurch.
Sir William Cullen has resigned the Lieutenant-Governorship of New South Wales, and Sir Phillip Street, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, has accepted that office.
Mr. H. G. Longsworth. chief instructor of Physical Training, is visiting the H.B. district, introducing the revised system of physical education into the secondary and the technical schools.
Mr. M. F. Constable, president of the Napier Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. R. M, Chadwick, secretary, were yesterday appointed the chamber’s delegates to attend the conference of the Associated Chambers, which is to be held at Mount Cook Hermitage in October.
The Diocesan Board of Education has appointed Mrß Macpherson, now in England, headmistress of the Craighead Girls’ School, Timaru, in place of Miss Salmond, who died in tragic circumstances at St. George's Hospital a few weeks ago. Mrs Macpherson, educated in England and Scotland is a Master of Arts, Edinburgh and has teaching experience in Canada and England.
