A MOTORIST SLEPT AND DREAMT—

That cyclists were banned from all main roads. That those in charge of a motorcar for the first time were forced to carry a reTT flag. This was fixed to the front and roar of tho machine. That petrol came down in price to tourpence a gallon. That horse vehicles were forbidden the streets of all big cities. That some bright young man invented a thing about the size of a pea which, when placed on the driver’s seat of a car at night, kept the whole machine nice and warm oven in the coldest weather. That all second-hand cars had to be overhauled and certified as mechanically sound before they were offered for sale. Tht pedestrians were made to carry rear lights. That his car ran for three weeks on two gallons of petrol. That his next-door neighbour came to him and admitted that his machine was rotten on hills. That his wife remained silent during the course of a 200-mile drive and then complimented him upon his skill at the wheel. That he went for a long night drive and that all the other motorists dimmed their headlights as well. That he took his mother-in-law for a drive and was summoned for obstruction after she had told him to drive at 10 m.p.h. That he won a race at Brooklands in which all his office colleagues also took part. That he passed a supercharged sports car on Porlock Hill on top. That he drove right through tho heart of London on a Thursday without once being held up. That he caught some thieves in tho act of stealing his car and laid them out in a row on the pavement outside the Old Bailey. Thon this motorist woke up to hear his new car being driven at a furious pace through his front gate.
