' THE Provincial Council bf Otago being ' desirous of stimulating invention, and securing the use ol gold saving apparatus in connection with hydraulic mining' adapted to the purpose of extracting gold from auriferous earth more completely than any of the machines, or methods at present in use, lias voted the sum of £250, to bo offered as a bonus for tho invention of such an apparatus, subject to such competition and. regulations as uis Honor tho Superintendent may acem Hfc. Notice is lieroby given in accordance with the vote • of the Council, that plans and proposals for such, au apparatus will be ieceived for consideration, up till tlie first day of August next ensuing. The following particulars aro published for the information of intended exhibitor? of plans. The plans and proposals will bo submitted tb a body of judges, composed of experienced miners, and such other persons , as his Honor tho Superintendent may appoint, and in considering them tho following points will be kept in vie w 5— 1. The cost of the apparatus as it appears on the plan, and itsprobable cost and tear and wear. 2. The readiness with which it can be secured in any part of a tail raoe, and be removed from one part to another nnd again secured. 3.
