Thoy woro plentifully fed with broad crumbs, carpenters were spocinlly omployod to construot ingonioue devices for tempting thorn to build thoir nests, nnd for somo timo thoy woro tho pets of tho publio. All this is ohnngod now. Tho sparrow, instead of boing an honorod guest, is pronounced a nuisance nnd an imposter. Ho hns multiplied in various parts of tho conntry, nnd, unfortunately, his conduct has not given satisfaction.
