went below.. Croffcon was missed at 8 o'clock this morning; he was about 35 years old, aud believed to be a widower. No reason can be given for his disappearance. The Maori prisoners have been removed from here. Ninety go to Dutiedin in the Hinemoa this morning, and forty- three to Hokitika in the Stella. A strong guard of the Armed Constabulary left in each steamer. This it is said will not interfeie with their trial on the sth April. The Auckland Herald in alluding to the telegraph strike attacks Dr Lemon, and alludes to Mr Maginnity as the Frank Paaemore of the Telegraph Department, Dcnedw, January 8. The petition calling on Walters to resign the Mayorship has been abandoned, owine to his having stated publicly tint" he will not resign on any account.
