THE Inangahua Times. PUBLISHED TRI-WEEKLY. MONDAY, JAN. 19, 1880.
jxi: annual volume of statistics of the Colony has just been issued. It shows on the whole an encouraging picture of the growth of the Colony. The p-oduetion of gold shows a very great falling off during the past year, Nelson and the West Coast heading the deficiency, the total decrease for the Colony amounting in ralue to a quarter of a million. The increased production of wool, however, rather more than covered the falling off on gold production. The West Coast still maintains the foremost rank in gold yield, the figures being. West Coast, £595,631 ; Otago, -J. 422,266 ; Auckland, £220,454. In the items of imports and export., ship-tonnage, as well as in all the principal items under the heading of trade and inter** change, there is shown a satisfactory increase. Haying in view the fact that the Colony has just passed through a period of unexampled depression, the progress which the figures indicate must be regarded as highly re** assuring. ,
