THE Inangahua Times. PUBLISHED TRI-WEEKLY. MONDAY, JAN. 26, 1880.

In pursuance of a resolution of ' ne County Council, a public meeting of the inhabitants will be held on Friday evening next, for the purpose of bringing under the notice of the -Government by resolution the imperative necessity which exists of appointing a Resident Magistrate and Warden for Inangabua. Tbat tbe present system is working very injuriously upon business people, we have learnt by experience, the intervals between tbe sittings of tbe Court being altogether too long for the necessities of the district. As matters stand half the utility of tbe Court is practically lost to traders, by reason of the delay and uncertainty of its working. It is not only as between debtor and creditor, however, tbat tbe existing arrange> mentworks injuriously. In tbe ordinary business of tbe Court mujh public inconvenience is caused. Ateacb sit* ting there is an accumulation of cases for bearing, and Buitors^' are kept loitering about tbft. precincts for, in in som© instances, dayr together, before their eases are called on, aad then, should an adjournment be required by either side, the case is bung up till the next sitting, involving a further delay of a fortnight or so, to say nothing of the extra cost cast upon the parties. In the case of mining companies it is of vital importance that applications should be dealt with expedihously. Very often tbe interests at stake ara enormous and Ihe occasions critical, and in order that capital invested here should be surrounded by the necessary safeguards, it is indispensable tbat the Warden should reside on the spot. "We trust then, as the question is one which affects tbe community seriously, to see a becoming interest manifested by the inhabitants on Friday evening, aud resolutions of such a nature passed as will leove the Government no longer fn doubt m to the urgency of the appointment,

The appeal which has been made throughout the Australasian Colonies on behalf of tbe distressed^ tenantry of Ireland, is being responded to'"*with generous liberality. Freely and all, however, as the contributions flow, in from all quarters, tbe relief is jvhlJlly , inadequate to tbe demands upon it. In this position then there is a strong obligation upon the people here to take some action, r|n Aha,, r master. Meetings onibe subject k 4rgafy been ) eld in almost all tbe otber West Coast towns, and it naw~re mains,, for the people here to unite with them in the good work. 0
