THE Inangahua Times. PUBLISHED TRI-WEEKLY WEDNESDAY, JAN. 28, 1880.

The Minister of Public Porka, it is announced, will shortly pay a visit to the West Coast, for tbe purpose, it is to be presumed, of acquiring a more intimate knowledge of the condition of public works in tbis part of tbe Colony, and also, it is to be hoped, of ascertaining by personal observation something of tbe wants and require* ments of tbe people. This may be taken as tbe ordinary scope of Ministerial visitations, and it is therefore to be hoped tbat the County Council bere will see tbat this district's light shall not be hid under a bushel on the occasion. In ,tbe ordinary course the Minister will arrive either at Grey* mouth from Christcburcb, or what is more likely, at Westport from tbe North, and in either case strong efforts must be made to bring about a visit to Reefton. It is not often tbat tbe West Coast is honored with, a visit from a Minister of the Crown, and it tbere«« fore beboves us to be prepared to make tbe most of the occasion. Could Mr Oliver be induced to make the inland journey between Westport and Greymouth, via Reefton, he would gain an ample insight into tbe difficulties of tbe Council in relation to tbe maintenance of main roads, as well as many other matters incident to travelling in these parts. We have the fullest coa» fidence also that were the facts in connection with tbe Black's Point Low Level Tunnel fairly represented to tbe Minister, that a favorable consideration of the project could be secured. For these then, and many other reasons which must be obv ; ous. it is desirable tbat the Council at its next meeting should either appoint a deputation to wait upon tbe Minister upon bis arrival on tbe West Coast or make such other arrangements as may best suit the occasion.
