A small portion of her cargo was damaged by the recent accident, and which had to be left behind. Consols— 9B. The wool auction opened to-day. There were 8000 bales catalogued for the opening sale. Bidding was firm, and active demand. Australian wools at close of the day showed an advance of 10 per cent as compared with last auctions. On Monday evening intense excitement had been occasionei in the city, in consequence of the renewed and dastardly attempt to destroy tbe Czar and the entire Imperial family. From particulars, which -ajb present transpired, it appears that about the time at ndiich guests invited to grand dinner at winter palace were as* sembled, a mine, fired by electricity, was suddenly exploded under tbe guard room, which was situated immediately beneath the grand dining hall, a terrific explosion took place, causing a large rent in the flooring of the din" ing hall, where Imperial 'family were supposed to be congregated — most providentially, however, they hal not assembled, and all members of the family consequently escaped, Tbe guard room was, however, completely destroyed; five of the guards being killed on the spot, and no less than thirty others less seriously wounded. Not the slightest doubt entertained that a deliberate attempt was made to assassinate the Czar and Imperial family, and the act is believed to be connected with the plot to destroy the palace, which was discovered some time ago.
