COUNTY MAN-TRAPS.
[TO THE EDITOB INANGAHtTA TIMES.] Sic : As the Council have commenced the much required work of filling in all the abandoned gravel pits about tbe town. I would suggest that a like course be taken with regard to the deep ditching which runs alongside the Buller, and other roads in the jown. The cost would not be heavy, and as in the event of an accident the Council svould be responsible, prevention is better than cure. Tbe compensation which wou'd be claimable for one broken leg or sprained ankle, would more than cover the cost of the whole filling in, and I, therefore, venture to suggest the wisdom of making the proverbial stitch in tijie. A recent ruling of the Court published in your columns, touching upon the liability of pnblic bodies in matters of this kind ought, with this bint, to be sufficient for our Council. I am, &c, Wandehee. Reefton, 21st February, 1880.
