BOATMAN'S JOCKEY CLUB.
On the 3rd instant, a meeting of those desirous of getting up horse races aud sports for St. Patrick's Day nijstj , \ras convened at Walker's Hotel, Capleston. Mr Timothy Gallagher was voted to the chair, and after explaining the object of the meeting, tbe following resolutions were carried unanimously :— "That the races be held on Mr D. M'Giuiey's ground. " That there be two days races, in« eluding football, and other sports. " That this meeting appoint gentlemen to act as members of a jockey club, and that the club be oalled the Boatman's Jockey Club. " That the qualification to act ffamem* ber of tbe club be the payment of one guinea to the funds of the club. " That the following members be appointed members of the Boatman's Jockey Club ;— Messrs D. H. Alexander, B. Smith, J. Rosborongt), D. M'Ginley, F. D. Walker, M. ' Williams,* J, Gilmer, R. Puffy, W. Cregan, T. Gallagher, S. I3arr. J. M'JN r eill, P. Fifsgerald, F. Eoopey, C. Lyona, P. Q. Cuples, H. Currie, and J. Billeti with power to add to their number." man's district — Messrs Alexander, Koxhft?ougli, ani Barr, Owing to the shortness of notice, it was decided the races should be open for local hacks only. The term " local " to include horses ; from the boundary of the Bailer and Inangahua Counties on the Buller Road, then along the Inangahua Valley as far as the saddle between Eeeftoa and Squaretown along the right-hand branch of the Inangabua as far as Walker's saddle on Walker's new road. Every local horse must be the resident in this district for a continuous term of three months previous to the race", and the bona fide property of some resident in the district, AH and ev&fy horse, thp winner of public money exceeding £15 to be excluded from winning any prize afc the meeting, and in ease any such horse should be entered, the owner o( such horse will be liable to a fine at the discretion of the stewards. Mr Williams was appointed secretary t& the dab pro tom./ani] Mr Alexander, Treasurer. Twenty-five pounds was collected in the hall. The meeting stands adjourned until Monday, Bth| instant, at 8 p.m. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings. Weather permitting, a mosfi successful meeting is expected.
