WILL OUR CHILDREN SUPPORT THEMSELVES ?
This question, spys the "American Agriculturist " comes to all parents of ( small or moderate meaus as they see ( their children growing up. Some have r t clear idea as to what business they wish their children <o pursue, and endeavor lo give them a bent in that direction, or to fit them for the chosen occupation. Others t watch anxiously for some hint as to the child's naUi al bent, wondering if he or she is good for anything in particular in the way of practical work. But there are some things which all parents e«n at. ,pndto in the way of preparing their children to support themselves. Kono nre too poor and none are too rich to gir P their children habits of industry an.' honesty. These will help in ever? sphere of life, and prepare (he wav for success in P very vocation. Those who really m P an to give their children a good pmc tioal education, should teach them, or have them taught, boys and a irls both, 1, OW to build a fire, how to cook plain, wholesome food, low «o take care of rooms, bow to make and care for gar- I dens, and (if possible) how to milk and taVe care of cows, and how to care for nd harness a horse. I* it absurd to any that these things should be considered » nece^ary part of a eood education? Ch ; ldren who learn to do these thine* well, and who have no false pride to m«kc them mor* willing to live in idleness, dependent upon the labor of others rather than to engase in honest sprvtee. which is usually considered " humble," if not absolutely t" degrading," will never fall into vagabondage.
