The Warden said ho would recommend the Government to grant the protection. The Just in-Time Company applied for additional sites for stacking tailings, and other purposes, which were unopposed and granted. A marriage is to take place at the Catholic chape?, on Monday next, which promises to be a very dashing affair. A well-known resident, who has rendered gratuitous musical services on many public occasions in Beefton, is about to enter into double bar. ness, and a number of lady and gentlemen amateurs, under the able leadership of Herr Schmidt have determined to lend eo'at to the occasion by performing Mendelssohn's grand Wedding March. The band will consist of two first violins, firM; and second cornet?, euphoneum and harmonium, and should prove a great musical treat. At a meeting of the stewards of the Boatman's Jockey Club, held at Walker's Hotel, Caplef ton, on Monday hst a settlement was . made over the Ja'e races. In the course of bis «* mon at the Wellington Roman Catholic Cathedral on Sunday, on the occasion of opening th* new organ, the Right Bey the Bishop >tated that in Church mi^tc solos were to be deprecated, especially female solos, which too often led to self glorification on their part, which was not desirable in the service of the Church. He also reminded his hearets that about two years ago the Diocesan meeting Ui set its face against the system of solo singing, and he hoped to eeo that their wishes in this matter would be respected.
