REUTER'S CABLEGRAMS. [PEB PBESB AGBNCY.] Sydney. Monday 29. At tbe Exhibition awards— Bagnall of Thames, Halcombe of Fielding, and the Otago Museum all receive prizes for timber exhibits. The Harbor Board, Auckland, l>r Campbell, Kaipara, and Hornby, of Picton, receives second prize for timber., Potts, of CbriYcburch, first prize for canes ; for guns, Labonde receives first, and Baker second, both of Wellington. Sundry New Zealand exhibits receive lower awards. At the Australian Jockey Club (Autumn Meeting) to«day, the St. Leoeb was won by Petrea ; Nellie, second, and Pontiff, third. Petrea won by three lengths. Time, 3 mm. 21£ sec. Bombay, March 28. Intelligence has been received from Cabul that theie was severe fighting between that city and Gundamuk, Tbe Kohistans having effected a junction with other hostile tribes made a desperate Attack on the British position between Oabtil and Gundamuk, heavy fighting ensued, and many were repulsed with great loss. The British loss was trifling. London, March 28. Gladstone has recovered from his re* cent illness. News has been received from South America of the resumption of hostilities between the Chilians and Peruvians. A severe battle has been fought at Mosquegus, which resulted in the defeat of the Chilians, who suffered a loss of thir; teen hundred men killed and wounded.
