Consumable surprise has no doubt been felt at the delay which baa taken place in laying the prospectus of the projected Low Level Tunnel before the public, but the delay has been in no way due to any want of interest on the part of the Provisional Directors of the company. It was necessary before the undertaking could be placed upon the market that certain legal rights along the course of the proposed tunnel be secured} and for this purpose communication by letter with the Minister of Mines was requisite, and the business has at length been satisfactorily settled, and everything is, therefore, now in readiness for proceeding with the floating of the company. The directors have secured important conces* sions from the Government in relation to the area of- ground jpn each- side*of the tunnel, so. that the company j s effectually secured against surprise or as the work progresses.' The secretary of the company is now prepared to receive applications for shares, and from the many assurances of outside support which have already been given, there is not the slightest doubt of the undertaking being floated. The directors have fixed the date for closing the applications at an early date, in order that the work may be started as soon as possible in the coming month.
