The Judge expressly stated that the heavy sentence was not caused by suspicion in any respect to the murder charge, but because of Butler's previous dangerously criminal career. Wellington,. The yerdict was that he died from apoplexy. It was said that deceased, whilst riding home from Wabefield on the night on toe 21st was seized with a fit of apoplexy, and that he died by the roadside, where he was found breathing his last.
