The friend who holds a mirror to my face, And hiding naught, ne'er faila to trace My faults, my smallest blemishes within ; Who friendly warns, reproves me if 1 sin— Although it aeem not 80-~be is my fritnd. But he wlio, ever flattering, gives me praise, Who ne'er rsbukes, nor censure?, Hor delays To come #ith eagerness »nd grasp my hand, And pardon me, ere pardon I demand — He is mj enemy, although he seem my friend.
