Armed bandits carried away before the eyos of the father a yourfg lal aged 17 years, promising to restore him on payment of 6000 francs. The father being unnble to procure sach a ransom, gave information to tbe police, and searen was made for tin* lad and for his captors. At last, by feigning to send a messenger wiih the ransom, two of the brigands were seized and the rest were known, nnd the plnee where the boy was confined was revealed. It wus a cave, and when the police and the father entered it, they found tke limbs of the boy scattered abou>. The brigands had killed him and left his body for the dogs and vultures to eat. THE CDNSI'-TOEY AT E*>ME. The consistory on tlie 27th was a brilliant affair. It was held in the Sala Dueale, according to the use before 1869 and was attended by 33 cardinals, including fiv^who on tlrs occasion received the bat. They were the Prince de Furstenberg, Archbishop of Olmulz, Meglia, Cattani.Ferreira dos Santos Silvas, and Snnguigni. Cardinal Jttcobini did not appear, boing detained by business at Vienna, This was the first public eon« si*tory held since 1859 with the usual grand ceremonies. The ambassadors of foreign Powers to the Holy See were likewise present in full court dress. No new cardinals were created, but a numhor of bishops were preconized. The Pope looked worn and ill.
