■•» During the recent election c tapatgn >fc Home, the newspapers have necessarily made great efforts to keep abreast of the day's news, while their advertising columns have also been crowdpd witli adcre-ses, notices of meeting*, &c. To meet (be demand thus created, somo ' monster ' issues have appeared, among which was that of the Scotsman fcr March 20. It consisted of 112 column?, of wbicb 69 were filed with advertisements, so the paper amounted to about 300,000 words equivalent to tbe contents of two three-volume novels ; 61,200 copies were printed, the paper employed weighing eight tons, while the sheets would have extended 104 miles if spread "nfc in a line. Tbe whole issue was printed and folded in three hours and ten minutes. One subsequent; issue of the Scotsman was of equal dimensions, A paper laid on the table of tha House, at the request of Dr Wallis, shows that the Government, during six months from October to March last, paid tbe newspapers of tbe Colony, for printing and advertising £5,544. Of thia the Wellington papers only got a small proportion j Times, -£162; Chron'cle, £120; Post,. £111. The Chief Secretary of Victoria has telegraphed to Sir Henry Parkes sug^ :
