General Burroughs brigadp. 3000 strong, was attacked by Ayoub K'»an's force, number* ing 12 000. The British lost two gun=, and being outnumbered fl 'd.' They were pursued for three miles by the Afghans, and in s'raggiing driblets reached Canda* har, where they took refuge with General Primrose's force of 2000 in the citadel. The enemy cut, the reWrnph wires, in order to prevent the British obtaining re* inforcements. Later ncconnts of the engagement state that th ra former reports wre greatly exaggerated. General BiKrouah* and his chief officers have reached the citadel of Candahar in safety. No detnils have been received of the lofs sustained by the British troops. METiBOtrnKE, July 30Mr Service has resincned and Mr Berry was sent for by the Governor and 'R now negotiating with O'Shannessy and Wrixon, in the formation of a new Ministry.
