The matter of Mr Courtney's contract was then considered, and the Chairman read a letter from him of this day's date offering to throw up his maintenance contract on the Westport road in coni sideratio'n of the sum of £200. Mr Davies here took his seat. Moved by Mr M'Gaffin, seconded by Mr Williams, that Mr Courtney be allowed the sum of £35 for completion of encing land taken for road. This amount to be offered without prejudice. — Carried. The accounts were then presented. Eesolved that Messrs Smith and Mahon's accounts stand over till next meeting. * ■Resolved that Messrs Irving and Har# vey's account be referred to the Public Works Committee to report on at the next meeting of the Council. Proposed by Mr M'Gaffin, that Messrs Coohrane and. , Son's account be passed for payment subject to obtaining the En» gineer's certificate. Seconded by Mr Byrne, and carried. The remaining accounts were then passed as corrected, and tbe meeting adjourned. - : - " : i
