They rowed on the Tyne yesterday, and were watched by a number of spectators from Ihe bank of the river, and by critics who were present. Their pulling is considered fruity! Further details have been received regarding the explosion which took place in the Sealiam colliery, Durham, yesterday. Over two hundred miners were in thp pit at the time of the accident, and one hundred and thirtyoseven have since perished. Of the remainder, sixly-seven up to the present have been saved. It has now transpired that 162 miners are raiesing in the Feaham colliery, where the explosion took place two days ago. Twenty-six thousand nailers in Staffordshire and the surrounding district have struck. Melbotjbne, September 13. Hpavy rain has fallen, and portions of both Melbourne and Geelong are flooded. The departure of the Eingarooma for Xew Z.-nland i* postponed until Thursday owing to the Yarra having overflowed its banks. A serious inundation has bppn caused, nnd traffic with several of the Kiibnrhs is stopped. The lower portions of (H.-lboarne near the river are in high fliof!, find business there is suspended. M'Meckan, Blackwood, and Co.'s office is flooded, and they have taken temporary premises. Adelaide, September 11. Pumping is proceeding with the utmost activity on the Sorata, and her officers are confident of being able to float her. The weather, however, is unfavourable for their operations. Later. In consequence of a heavy gale now trowing, fears are entertained for the safety of the Sorata. Communication with her is cut off. September 1^... The Sorata i« greatly exposed to the gale which is blowing, and her position is critical.
