The Observer, weekly illustrated, has been published; Jacob Seift. a German pedlar, who recently was selling jewellery on Mie West Cjast, has had all his stock seized for non-payment of duty, also some gold dust, which be said he took in exchange for goods down south, and he has been heavily fined. September 20. Edward Hart, of tbe Happy Hours Company, has been committed to gaol for one month for violeut assault upon a young man named .Russell. The evidem c showed that Hart, ou the previous night, n-iis beating his wife, and she ran out of the room and fell into the arms of Hogarth, and an altercation ensued between the landlord of the hotel and Hart, and the latter showed fight. Jlussell came forward to protect the landlord and received a violent biow from a botile of sherry, which Hart had in his hand. Hart was under influence of liquor. In Court he denied beating his wife, but snid he was chastising bis daughter. Hogarth, he said, assaulted his wife, and Russell was insolent. Business has not been good with the Harts of late, and 1 Family Jars ' have disturbed their ' Happy Hours.'
