Meleottene, October 1. At (he opening of the Exhibition, (lie vice-regal party, on reaching the Few Z'aland annex, were received by the Commissioners, Dr. 'Hector and Messrs Blnclnmod and Callis. The secretary, Dr. Hector, presenter! the Marquis of Normnny with a handsome catalogue of New Zealand exhibits and 'a handbook of New Zealand. Although this is the Marquis of Normanby's first official visit, he has frequently visited (ho Court prior to the opening, and shown (hat he still relains a livelj' interest in New Zealand affairs. The Court presents a pleasing; aud attractive appearance, although several details are still unperfected. The entries are greater than at the Sydney Exhibition, and the space allotted is less. Although the Court is crowded, every exhibit is displayed to the best advantage. After visiting all the Courts, the viceregal pirfv returned to the dais, and the Marquis of Normanby despatched a ti?le» if ram to (he Q-ieen, announcing the opening. The party then entered the ground-:, and inspected the trades procession, with bands playing the National Authem. A salute was fired, and the vice-resial party departed, The whole proceed ing? passed off with great eclat. There was a large attendance, and the scone at 'he opening ceremony was brilliant and impressive, Most of the Courts are in a forward sate, althc-ugli some are itill unfinished. The whole display promises to be excellent. The streets during the day were thronged. The crowds were very orderly. A briHi'int il uminution of the harbour took place at night. October 2. The attendance at the opening ceremony yestardny was GSOO, and 15,000 persons visited the Exhibition during tlio d:iy. TJie Queen has replied to tho M.irquis of Normanby's telegrara announcing the opening of the Exhibition wishing it success. It is proposed to hold a grand review of the military and naval forces on November 9;h. October 4. The Age states that an intriuu^ is afbot to oust tl-.e Kerry Government after the recess ; and that Sir -John O'Shannessy and Murray Smith are combining with that object.
