Information has been received by mail that in the landslip at Nainatal (Bengal) Major Morphy and Mrs Morphy of tbe 40th Regiment were killed. Major Morphy served in the Waikato war as subaltern. C.HRisTCHUacii, October 18. A meeting of persons interested in opening up communication by railway between the Fast and West Coasts of tlm Island was held this afternoon, when it was resolved to open a subscription list for £100, to pay tbe expense of the reconnaissance survey.
