Sia,— ln yonr issne of the Ist December, an article appeared in reference to the wire-rope used by the Energetic Company <:o .raise and lower the men to their work, I will just state all particulars about the rope. It was purchased in Melbourne from the agent of the manufacturer, who has the reputation of being tue best maker of steel wire rope in England, at a cost of £139 per ton, and the company had a guarantee that the breaking strain is 20 tons; the rope is constantly used for raising water from the well a distance of 365 feet — the tank, when full, weighs 19001bs. Some few days back, I noticed some of the single strands were broken, and I have couse» qiieotly refused permission to the men to travel by it until such time as the rope shall hare had a thorough inspection and re-adjustment, although I am happy ro state the rope is in constant use, and has shown no other signs of weakness I trust I hat the pnre I hare exhibited will not be construed into a fau't reflecting on me or the Energetic Company.— l «m, sir, &c.
