The demand of the Seamens' Union for the eight hours system while steamers are in port. Piilminated last night in a strike on the Hina, Tui, and Manawato. Seve* ral men whose articles had not expired were arrested and charged to-day with refusing to obey orders. The defendants were at their own request remanded till. Saturday next. The steamers got away with what men they could get from other vessels in port-, Tbe Union intend to prosecute tbe captains for leaving port without the statute number of mpn.
