THE STORY OF A RING.

The 'Mount Alexander Mail.' in a recent issue, tells the following curious narrative ;— ' A strange story has to be told of a gold ring that was lost by a Sandhurst lady seventeen years agobythe breakage of her.wateH chain. The ring was much prized by her as a family treasure, it being one oftho four memoriam rings presented to the relatives of Lord Nelson after the death of the naval hero at Trafalgar. As soon as the loss was ascertained,, advertisements were put in the Sandhurst and Ciisllemaine newspapers, and bills posted up offering handsome reward for the recovery df the ring ; bnt these having on effect, all hopes of its restoration were abandoned. Tn the great surprise of a gentleman interested in this lady, he read in an evening journal a paragraph to Urn effect that Mr Leon M. Tier, of thePeople'? Theatre, Melbourne, had in his possession a ring, the description of which exactly corresponded with that of the long-loat ring. Upon thepolice being requested to inquire how Mr Tier became possessed of it, he informed the detective he purchased it from a pawnbroker, and this was found to be correct. The pawnbroker stated that ifc was pledged several times with him during the last fourteen years by a schoolmaster muned' Scott, who died three years ago. Theupshot of the information led to an interview with Mr Tier, which concluded by selling the ring to the rightful owner, who is now ir> possession of it again after an interval of seventeen years.'
