DRAMATIC CLUB.

[TO THE EDIT OK INAN&AHITA TIMES.] Sib: Some remarks appeared in yoor last issue with reference to the formation of an^matour Drfimatie Club in Reef-' loss to un^ejrstaml how it is that we pan* not maintain a permanent company here. The reason is a very simple one. In the first place in order to keep sucb a company together, it is necessary that there should be some one qualified person as rriahoger, wndse n 'dutbottty is recognised by fvery member. Now upon this posi* tion of manager a good deal of work devolves in drilling the parts and hunt* ing up the luke-warm. Hitherto the position as been honorary, and it can hardly be wondered that it has, therefore, not been much sought after. For my own part I do not think we could ever maintain a dab in Reefton without having a paid manager. I dp not think tfie salary- should oe high— say not ifcore Mian 20 per cent of the netfreceipts, and I feel sure that until some such recom* npns»e is made to the person who sacri« ftVfis his time to getting up performances, we shall nerer he able to get anyone to take the initiative. I believe with you that we have in Reefton all the material foe a good Amnteur Club, and all that is required is some one 'person to make it his business to Uppv the company in working order. Without fmaking invidions comparisons, I may express tbf opinion that some of the amateur pern formances gnen here would compare not very unfavourably with some of the professional shows we have had. With -my Japolbgy Jot^roubling f ydu,;-!-J &c, Peompteb. Reef on, lllh April. 1881.
