being effected: and we must here ivir.ark that much credit is due to him for the painss taking way in whicii he has performed bis duties, more especially for the forcible way in which he has kept the matter of Hospital support before the Government, local bodies, mining companies and others ; and in the clear and explicit manner in which the books and ac-counta-hare been kept and laid before us. A saving of £ 39 per annum has been made through the voluntary reduction in the salaries -of ibe house steward and matron. The Hospital Dispensary is now a fact. Part of one of the buildings was fitted up for that purpose at a cost "of £12, and" 5 supply of drugs and appliances procured from Wellington at a cost of £114. Everything has been put into thorough working order by Mr Preshaw, who acts as dispenser; and under fliis heading a considerable saving will in future be effected, as an occasional small expenditure to replenish stock w^l be all that is required The supplies from the different contractors are reported to hare been regular and of good quality. ' * IWe have to thank the County Council for the assistance offered by them, viz : £150 subsidy, and a donation of £20 to cover costs of burials of destitute cases admitted into the Hospital ; also, the mining managers of companies who have interested themselves on behalf of the Institution: notably , 'the Golden Fleece, Energetic, and most of the mines in the Murray Creek district. The retiring Committee, as constituted, has undergone various changes during the ' past year, and from the subscribers will have i. to- be elected a new Committee to succeed them. i In conclusion, we trust that our successors . will use their endeavours to get subscriptions, ; and impress upon the general- public and • mining companies in the district the necessity i of asMsticg in the support of a useful p institution, and one that cannot be kept in a stutejof tfficiency without liberal support.
