— — w Information interesting to financiers and economists was given in the Hou^e by Mr Lackey lately relating to the capital invested in the railway lines, and the amount per cent receired. Authority was given to borrow for railway purposes £8,500, 000, and for tramways £60,000 only ; | £11,610,000 had been raised by loan! up to the last year. The net annual j earnings were £513,223, equal t04'42 per cent, on thejamouot borrowed, and 391 on the mount of capital expended in the construction of the lines. All the loan has been expended except £469,000. The statement was considered highly satisfactory from all points of view.
