It ia a curious fact thut wemen are employed at the Pennent Hills stone qnarriej, near Parramatta, New South Wales. They do precisely the same work as the quarrvmen, and are able to earn £2 lOd a week easily. The Melbourne teetotallers bave a new drink called ' v.gorine.' It is done up in champaigne bottles, gold-topped etc., and when opened, has a head and sparkle tbat cannot be distinguished from the ft-shionable wine. The Law Times points out that Parliamentary 'obstruction' was not •entirely unknown in the Jast century On the 12th of March, 1771 the minority divided the House 23 times resisting the punishment of the printers of the debates. Burke sail of those proceedings, ' l'osterity will bless the pertinacity of that day.' An American contemporary states that a London firm of sermonmongers have letely been addressing themselves to tbe American market. The manager offers sermons ' lithographed in a bold hand* • so that those who happened to see them would suppose that tbey were manuscript, 25 cents eaeb, or 20 dollars per hundred They have a line of cheaper sermons in print, 10 cents a-pieco warranted orthodox ; and others — a little more expensive— which have ' pleasantness, yet an awful selemnity about them,'
