EAST AND WEST COAST RAILWAY.
» Christchurch, 13lh April, 1881. To Patbick Brennan. Esq., County Chaibman. Reefton. Pib, — The promoters of the East and West Coast Railway have beard from tbeir Engineer, Mr Browne, of the interest which the people of the West Coast manifest in tlie proposed line. As you i may be aware they have invited his Excellency's Government to introduce at the next session of Parliament a Bill to enable them to treat with individuals or companies willing to constructed work, or to construct alone, trunk lines through out the colony, payment in land being made therefore, It is scarcely neces* sary to'sayj that the acceptan|£j£ the country of such a measnso would materially facilitate the prosertifion of tbe enterprise'referred to ; aiTenterprise which must benefit, not alone the Middle Island, but the entire'~colbny. Vou shah be duly advised of the Premier's reply to our request. In tbe meantime, however, we bopef fo* receive' from the people of the West" Coast all the sup« port they can directly and indirectly accord to us in the matter.—* We beg to remain, yours obediently, ,J7 Edmund Wickes. Tj S. Weston, Chairman pro, tem.J[of Promoter's Committee. R, Pbeston Bain, Hon. Secretary.
