INANGAHUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of the I'xecutivo Committee was held at the Council Chambers, Wed* nesday, April 27th, 1681, at 7,30 p.m. Present : Mr Brennan (chairman), and Messrs Davies and Byrne. Letter from Patrick Keogban, re re* serve at Matakitaki was read. Resolved that the Chairman take the necessary steps to lwive the reserve alluded to vested in the Council. Letter from Secretary to the Treasury, stating that the amount of expenses in» curred re audit of County accounts would be refunded. From Colonial Secretary, stating that the revenue for [the month* of {March would be remitted. From Under - Secretary for Public Works in explanation ro the erection of bridge at Whale's Creek. Letter from James F.^Johnstone, drawing the attention of the Council to the bad state of repair of road lending to his place, and requesting Council to make a piece of road fo connect with the road lately ninde towards Mirfin's farm. Referred to Engineer to report on, Letter] from John Kerr, re his rates aud dog-tax, and asking Council to remit his rate? in lieu of certain works, which he had performed in connection with the repairs of roads. Matter referred to the Engineer to report upon after bis nest visit to'Hampden. In the meantime, the Chairman to write to Mr Kerr, and inform him of the action of the Council, From Niel M'Conneehie, offering Council a portion of his land for road purposes, and stating that he would charge the Council £100 for the same, From John Overend, complaining of a man named Lamberton fencing and oc« copying a public reserve at Crushington. Resolved that Limberton'bo written to and informed that he has fenced and occupied the reserve at his own risk, and that he might be requested at any time to remove therefrom. From Samuel Husband, complaining of the state of culverts and bridges in Cullen^and May's contract, The matter was referred to the Engineer, who reported that the necessary steps had been taken to remedy the defects complained of. From the Minister of Mines, re subsidy towards the Big River track, stating that subsidy could not be paid in the absence of the Warden's certificate. The Engineer was instructed to furnish an estimate of costs for reducing the gradients, and making necessary im* provements to the said track. From James Payne, clerk to Grey Council, giving the necessary information re salary paid by Grey Council to in« spector of miner's rights and business licenses. From the Under-Secretary for the Goldfields, stating that Government would subsidise the cutting of a track from Rainy Creek to the Lyell. if Council were prepared to bear half the cost. The Engineer was instructed to obtain thejnecessary information from Mr Monti gomerie, and to prepare specifications, and call for tenders for clearing a track 6 feet wide from Larry's to the Lyell on the line of the supposed reefing country. Tenders to close on the 11th day of May at 12 o'clock noon. From John Oxnam, asking for a lease of the reserve at Owen river for a term cf seven years. The Chairman was requested to inform Mr Osnam that the Council could not entertain his application until after the forthcoming sitting of the House of Representatives, but that in the event of the Council deciding to let the reserve his application would have priority. From Mrs M'.Powal asking the Conns oil for assistance towards the expense of keeping a horse af the Left-hand Branch. — Matter not entertained. From Bryan M'Mahon stating that he heid the Council responsible for any damage the erection of protective works at Boatman's Creek would cause to his property.

From John Gannon ask'ng the Council to supply him with a wire rope for the erection of a bridge. Matter referred to Engineer to report. From Thomas Lee offering to hire the rock-boring apparatus in the event of the Council purchasing one for the County. Resolved that Mr Lee be informed that the Council have not completed arrangements for the purchase of the machine, but iv the ovent of their doing so his re« quest will be acceded to. Re circular from the Maniototo County Council respecting several matters bent 1 * ficial to Counties generally. The Chair* man was empowered to request the members of the district to support the request contained in the letter. Resolved that the correspondence as read be receired. The Engineer's Report re track from Carriboo to Big iiiver ; Keep-it-Dark Company's race ; track up the Left- band Branch : and road required by Rooney and Bates was then read and considered. The Engineer was instructed to pre* pare speci6cations and call for tenders for the diversion of the river near Overends farm. Tenders to close on May 11th, at noon. Accounts were passed to the amount of £1031 7s '2 J. | The Council then adjourned.
