The second contractors for the further extension of the old Goldren Crown tun* nel are not making very great progress, as the ground is remarkably bard, and difficult to loosen. However, they are sticking hard at it, and are getting on as well as adverse circumstances will permit. This company are also employing wages men at another part of tbe mine, namely, the old No. 3 level. Here work is easier, and tbe nature of indications— pug and lose gold-bearing quartz— would indicate the proximity of the reef.
