INANGAHUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Executive Commit* tee was held at the Council Chambers. Reefton, on Friday, May 16tb, instant. Present: Mr Brennan (chair), and Messrs Davies, and Byrne. A letter from Mr M'Mynn, re the terms on which be was willing to act as inspector of miner's right, was read. Resolved that the sum of £20 per annum be offered to Mr M'Mycn, in uddi* tion to 15 per cent on all moneys collected. The term to be for 12 months, and the conditions as follows : — Hampden to be visited twice in the year — Blackwater, Antonio's, Devil's Creek, Boatman's, Murray, and Crushington, four times a vear. and after each visit the Council to be furnished with a list of the parties who have taken out rights through the exer* tions of the Inspector. The appointment to be terminable at any time through any neglect of duty, A letter from Stevens and Co., Invercargill, re boringxmacbines, was read, and the Chairman was directed to write to Mr Stevens informing him that the Cruncil were in treaty with the General Government for the purchase of a similar machine. Telegram read from the Land Offic?, Nelson, relating to an application by John Overend for a lease of 50 acres of land was read, snd the Chairman was requested to write to tbe department in question recommending a refusal of the application. Letter from tbe Commissioner of Crown Lands, Nelson, relative to appliea* tions of Mr Bayfeild for prospecting area Lankey's was read, and the Chair man instructed to write to tbe Board, stating that Council strongly object to these applications. A letter from Mr Blower (per agent. Mr M'Ginley) claiming payment for timber (his property) taken by the Council, for the purpose of building a bridgr, was read, and tbe Chairman instructed to notify Mr Blower, that the Council wero willing to pay the value of the timber, name'y, £14 16s, as estimated by the Engineer. Resolved that the Engineer be instructed to turn the river at Crushington either by contract or day labor, as he may deem most advisable. A special meeting of the Council was held at the Council Chambers, on Thurs» day, the 26th of May, 1881, at 2 p.m. Present: Mr P. Brennan (Chairman), and Messrs Caples, Byrne, Williams, Davies, and Plaskett. The Chairman in opening the business, stated that the meeting was called to con* sider the balance-sheet, and statement of assets and liabilities, as provided in section 134 of the Counties' Act. After considerable discussion, it was proposed by Mr Byrne, seconded by Mr Williams, and carried, that the balancesheet, as presented by the Treasurer and audited by the Counties' Auditor, be adopted. The meeting lapsed at 3 p.m.
