Sir George Grey opposed the speech in a speech lasting over an hour, and pointed out that no reference wa9 made in it to local self-government, His pros posed scheme is to take a group of three or four Counties', and convert them into one large district, leaving it to the people to niter those boundaries if they pleased. This being done, there would be bestowed on the district so formed almost the powers possessed by the former provinces. Mr WakefiVJd replied, in powerful des bate, a sarcastis speech, and a long debate is now expected on the address, in which it is expected the whole question of local self-government will be opeucd up.
