Tn the House of Commons to«day, the Hon. Grant-Duff, Tinder-Secretary of State for the Colonies, in reply to a ques« tion, promised that the Government would take into consideration the question of taking steps" to"bring f about an agree* ment between Powers, in order to counteract!- kidnapping3_and alaTery*'in* the
Pacific.
Communication has been made to the British Government by Boers, who remained loyal during the recent war, asking some compensation in consequence of withdrawal of British rule from the Transvaal. Mr Gladstone addressed a letter in replyi which J states that thejGo* vernment do not consider the petitioners entitled to indemnification under the circumstances.
