CABIN PHILOSOPHY.
Some verses on " Cabin Philosophy " (says Rapier) stowed away at the end of Scribner's Magazine, are worth abundant quotation. I have not of late seen simple philosophy better put than in the following — Dar's heap o* dreadful music in do vpry fines' fiddle; A ripe an' meller apple may be rotten in de middle. De wises' lookin' trabcller may be the bigges' fool; Dar's a lot o' sold kickin' in the humbles* kind o' mule. De preacher ain't de holiest dat w'ars de meekee' look. An* does de loudes* bangin' on de kiver ob de Book! [I hope this will not be thought to be irs reverent, for it is evidently not meant to be s >.j Well, you tint dat doin' nuffin' 'tall is mighty Bof an' nice, But it busted up the renters in de lubly Paradise. You see, dey bofe was human bein's, jes' like me an' you, An' dey coulta't reggerlato dairselves wid not a ting to do ; Wid plenty wuk befo' 'em, an* a cotton crop to make, Dey'd nebber thought o' loaflin' 'roim' au' chatten wid de snake.
