REUTER'S CABLEGRAMS. [fbom oub own COBBESPONDENT.] London, Septemher26 The Standard this morning publishes a telegram stating that'the Transvaal Volksraad has refused to ratify Convention agreed to last month between the Royal Commissioners and Boer leaders. The AU&England Eleven bave started for America to play a series of matches in the United States and Canada, prior to their arrival in Australia. Before leaving England tbey were entertained at a public banquet at Nottingham. Shewsbury, a Nottingham man, one of tbe best batsmen of tbe team, stayed behind, being unable to leave on account of illness. Calcutta, 26 Official telegrams have been received by the Government of India confirming the news received yesterday of the defeat of Ayoub Khan by the Ameer at Candahar ; the battle was fought on Friday, and was of a most sanguinary character; for fully five hours a most desperate fight tock place, and great slaughter took place on both sides ; the Ameers troops have since partially plundered Candabar, which has since been completely plundered
