-♦ (From the tyjell Times.) Thursday, September 29. Ci(Bstrs.~»The reef wai picked up on Taesday. On' Monday, Mr Fantella, who is in ofcarge of tbe mine, started two eroßspnts— o^c east, the other west— and when tbe latter was in three feet the reef was cut. It is 18 inches thick, and its course parallel with the tunnel. It has been stripped back for a distance of 10 feet, and as it is found in precisely the same position with regard to the tunnel this favours tbe id .a that there, was really only « very small break, and that the reef bad simply overlapped to the west. The eastern cross-cut is in 10 feet and the country hard, Future works will be considered by the directors on Friday (tosmonyo.w) evening. Sydney. — Trenching for the Grmsus reef has been carried on during the past fortnight with ?ery favourable indications, and a small tunnel has now been commenced with the view of more speedily intersecting the, Ifoe. Welcome. — The contractors have driven the tnnnel recently started on this lease a distance of 25 feet -, and it is expected that the. large reef, from which the encouraging prospects have been obtained on the surface, will be interseoted within another 25 feet. TTniteii Alpine.— The full number of hands are engaged stoping in this mine, between Nos. 4 and 5, levels. There is nothing oew to note in the workings. Umtbr Victory.— The main tunnel is now in about 400 feet. It is calculated that tbe neighborhood of the wiDse will be reached within another 60 feet. There ts no improvement in the nature of the country, and 8 feet per week is abont the V^fage.rate 0 f driving. The company's paddock is completed, and the shoot ha 3
been commenced. The tramway formation was finished to»day ; and laying the rails will be stsrted at once. The contractors expect to have fhe mine and battery connected in' about three weeks. At tiie battery*!. ouse work is delayed waiting delivery of the stamper* box. It h;is been decided to erect the additional five heads of stampers, and the maehineTy vrili be delivered at Lyell at nn early date ; I under?. nnd a contract has already been let for ils erection. This will give the company ten heads of stampers, wbich will no doubt be ample to meet all requirements of tbe mine. Republic. — The deed of association of this company is now in course of signa« ture, and registration will be completed immediately. A meeting of shareholders will (hen be held to consider what shall first be done to open up tbe mine. Ll-CARTEN. — It has been decided fo commence operations on this lease, and a meeting of shareholders will be held in a few days to decide upon the first works to be takeii in hand. The property is situated No 1 South of tbe United Victory Company's lease.
