RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Thubsday, i ctober 6th, 1881. (Before W. 11. Kevell, Esq., R.M.) a Nicholas v. John Sweetman. Information for haviDg used indecent
language in a public place at Black's Point. Amelia Nicholas, hotelkeeper, at Black's PoiDt, said that the accused had used the language complained of ou'side of the hotel on Tuesday last. The language was such that ;hu did not consider it fil (o repeat in Court, but she would hand in a paper containing the opprobrious epithets used against the witness. George Willis, contractor of Black's Poiot, corroborated the statement of informant. Fined, £2 and costs, in default one weeks imprisonment in Hokitika gaol. Botd v, Stevk Gartin. Claim by plaintiff, who is Secretary to the Hospital Committee, of £15 on a promissory note given by the defendant in lieu of maintenance, while an inmate of that Institution. Hugh B>yd, produced promissory note, and stated that payment had been demanded repeatedly, D. O. Preshaw proved signature to note, Judgment by default for amount claimed with costs.
