The. sinking of the winze is being proceeded with, and the depth now reached is 45 feet below the old bottom, leaving a similar distance yet to be sunk to reach the total of 170 feet, beyond which the present lifting appliances are not calcn lated to be adopted. The stone which is being followed is still improving in quality the further down it is being traced, and excellent yields are expected when this nortion of the mine shall be* eoive accessible to more extensive opera* tions. Ihe extension of the main levsl is being continued by contract, and fair progress is being made, without however disclosing any apparent change in the formation of the country. Only a small parcel of 100 tons has been crushed during the month. This resulted in 97^z^ of~Vetorted gold being an improvement on the previous return, which is mainly attributed to the good stone raised from tho winze
